I didn't realise when I created my first As I Wander book that the info I put on the inside flaps wouldn't print if someone ordered a soft cover or image wrap cover, it only prints on the dust jacket versions. Not a huge deal really I guess. One flap is "about the author" and the other is general info about the South Island. But they were bits I thought would be good to have in the book for background and info.
But since I'm working on the NI one I am not sure if I should do the same or if I should take up valuable photo-space and put the info either on separate pages or on a page (NZ info in the front of the book, author info at the back of the book). And if I do put the info inside the book what should I put on the flaps? Thoughts???? The info I put on the flaps aren't a bit deal, the book stands alone without it really. I'll put the info below in case you're curious what it is. This is the NI info and is a bit rough. The author one is the same as the SI and I was going to leave it the same. I've got the full preview turned on for the SI book so if you want to check it out to see how the dust jacket one look like.
About the Author:
About the author: Alex has been taking photos since he was a kid. Most of these early photos aren't worth putting in a book, but they laid the ground work for what you see. He is inspired by photographers such as his wife Carol Ryan, Andres Apse, Ansel Adams, Galen Rowell, Geoff Moon and Dorthea Lange.
His skills continue to grow and he has learned a lot about photography from his wife. He moved to New Zealand from the US in 2001 to be with her. His adopted country affords plenty of opportunities to experiment in his chosen craft.
When he isn't out taking pictures he is in the garden, curled up with a good book, or cuddling his wife and/or one of their cats.
His current camera of choice is a Pentax K10D. He's hoping to upgrade to the Pentax K7.
The info for the NI I'm putting in:
This is the North Island of New Zealand, a place of geothermal fields and mountain peaks. Black and golden sand beaches open their warm laps for you to rest on and the mirror-lakes call you to reflection.
This is Te Ika-a-Māui, with over 3 million people on the boat and growing. It is still easy to walk away from the cities and find yourself immersed in the bush, where pongas (tree ferns) step in a prehistoric dance with transplanted redwoods. Or if you prefer you can enjoy historic city buildings, shop in trendy fashion stores or snack on fresh sea food.
Film crews have captured some of the land's mystery. Mount Taranaki was the backdrop for The Last Samari. Bethells Beach was the setting for Hercules and Xena tv shows and The Piano. Some of The Lord of The Rings trilogies were filmed in the central region. It is a magical place. Step into the land through these images and take a short visit.
Editted to add: Also, I've put some generic-type info in the book this time around. THings like how the Waitomo Caves are limestone, there are about a dozen main lakes in Rotorua, things like that. I've picked up this info from Wiki and other tourist-type websites. Do I have to cite sources like this if I've paraphrased generic public info, not opinions or anything?
