Summer Books and Movies

Jul 20, 2005 03:39

I thought I'd share some of the madness I'm watching/reading this summer should it interest anyone, perhaps to take a look themselves:

Books: 1.War and Peace-Its a classic, a legend. Its a worthwhile book to read, at least so far and for those too lazy to use their brain, you can watch the movie which might give you some idea of what its about.

2.Meditations-No, not a book on the benefits of meditation, nor the history of said practice. Merely the musings of the philosopher Emperor Marcus Aurelius. A worthwhile read if your into that sort of thing.

3.Why I write-Looks great! however I confess I haven't read into it so far, as my attention has been drawn away on various other projects, but its by George Orwell, can't be that bad, can it?

4.Inferno-By Dante! :D How can reading about the levels of hell go wrong? Find out for yourself this summer.

5.Communist Manifesto: Ok, I cheat. I really didn't have another book at nigh 4 in the morning, but 5 is such a better number than 4. You can buy this, and the books number 2 and 3 on the list in a very affordable series intitled "Penguin Books -Great Ideas" They have a bunch of great books to make you think, all $9.99, not bad eh?

Movies:Harold and Kumar go to white Castle: I confess, this movie made my day. It isn't a great movie for those looking for something within the realm of sanity but still, maybe worth a couple minutes of bordom.

2.Shawn of the Dead-Oh Man! This movie is gold! watch. Now.

3.Lemony Snicket's A series of Misfortunate events: A lot better than I thought it would be, I love that kind of gothic, artsy, surreal look.

4.Nothing (or if your lazy in the reading, War and Peace)-A nice story. Again, very surreal. Still, maybe worth a look. (and if watching war and peace, an excellent way to spend an afternoon. Very nice diologue, from what I saw.)

5.In Enemy Hands- I think thats the title...basicly about german U-boats with some american cross overs in the story line. Again, its more because I'm running low on ideas for the list (started running dry by #4) but its a good movie, I enjoyed it.

Soo! these lists (and the spelling therein) may need to be revised when I've had more sleep but for now, enjoy!
