Happy New year folks and long overdue REAL post
Well Happy 2009 to everyone out there.
2008 was well... a long strange year for me. Most of the difficulties were work related. The job getting harder and harder, being made to work from home for a extended period, and finally my contract not being renewed...
New job is becoming interesting some time it is like a mental "drink-from-the- firehose" feeling of learning as much and as fast as I can. Getting up to speed for them on apache, PHP, pyhton, perl, django, postgres mysql, and mapping out their hardware and software infrastructure.
While I haven't been there that long they are beginning to ask me to do stuff - install openx and review board app on their servers. Not difficult but tricky as they want them on "live" servers that have other legacy stuff on them.
I think this will work - one of the big reliefs was getting a paycheck for the time I have worked and seeing that it won't be that much less than what I was making before. (possibly the same or even a little more)
Things I liked about 2008
Thursday night dinners: It was fun to challenge myself and cook new things. I also enjoyed
seeing friends and hanging out, playing host and connecting with folks
Gaelic Storm : A great band and always a fun concert.
Telecommuting : While after a extended time it made me feel isolated from coworkers and job
it was waayy cool to get up and 7:55 am and still be on time to get to work ;)
Morning coffee with beloved : Got to be a delicious habit. Even now when I am going in to new
job I still make coffee, have some with her at home and take the rest in with me.
New job : While its not always comfortable being pushed, its nice to know I still got it and
can excel when called upon.
Iron Man / Hellboy movies : Movies based on comic books ruled this year.
Warhammer Online : A new MMO addiction
Trip to Texas : Seeing sis-in-law and hanging out with them. Seeing wild animals in the "wild"
New laptop : Needed for travel and soon became a new tool that I just had to have.
Moped : While I didn't have to go in to work often it was very nice to just zoom there
park by the door. Waiting for warmer weather and repairs to get the moped back and start
riding that into new job.
Election : Turning out right and BEING OVER. Sorry but after a while I just got tired of
election coverage. It was obvious who was the best candidate early on.
Wii and Rockband : Sometime you just *need* more cowbell.
