The ongoing saga, but things are looking up

Yet another update

The last remaining drive in the system failed..luckily it was 5 minutes AFTER I got Windows installed on the new drive. Part of me is angry I didn't think to back it up before it died (I could have but it would have been a pain and not saved that much) So final count is power supply 5 - me 0.

But the good news - the new hard drive is up a running *VERY* nicely. I am still shocked at how much a difference it made from the old drives. The backup video card works well enough for me to game with. ( The only real problem I have with it is that the driver while recognizing I have two monitors forces me to use the left monitor as the primary )

A big "Thank you!" goes out to rouguewolf71 for the spare PCI-e video card. Thanks bud that will make upgrading much less of a pain.

Now to restore, rebuild and plan. I am shooting for a dual boot Windows / Linux on the fast hard drive and then create a virtual Windows system inside of Linux. While Linux is pretty good for a lot of things it still falls short here and there. Being able to run Windows inside Linux would take care of that - not to mention make the system REALLY damn hard to hack.

REALLY GOOD NEWS - Okay to anyone out there with a PC if you buy a video card buy a BFG video card. These people ARE GREAT. Called in about video card Monday, got an RMA, went to UPS and had it shipped off, they got the card Wednesday **processed the RMA and shipped back a new card the same day** it is hard to find service like that anywhere these days! I should have the old card back and ready to rock on Friday. Their video cards may cost a little more than other manufacturer's but MY GOD is it worth the extra for warranty and service like this.

(Which reminds me to send in the warranty cards for the new power supply and hard drive)

In other news once I have the camera software installed I will be able to show the pics I have taken in the last few days. One set is three pictures of a double rainbow from last week. The other set is of some food pr0n -I made bierocks last night for supper using ready-to-bake biscuit dough. These were some of the BEST DAMN bierocks (or for those that don't know Mennonite cuisine "runzas") The crust was flaky and light and buttery - strong enough to hold a generous amount of filling with out breaking. They were so good I have ideas about making holiday versions of them - doing a sausage / apple filling or a apple / raisin / pecan filling - even a honey & nut baklava version.

food, computer blues
