I love to shop, perhaps too much so, but I deplore the annual cycle of rampant consumerism that peaks during the next month. I'm also sickened by our wasteful materialism and cultural consumerism in general (despite my own bad habits). I stay away from mass culture enough to be occasionally shocked by it (the toy dept. of any big box store like Target is good for a rant any day...!). So this is my attempt to walk at least a block of the walk, as well as talking all too freely the talk.
Does it still count as "buying nothing" if I pay off my parking tix so I can renew my car registration? And/or paying overdue bills or library fines? Oh well, my moral stance is at least that flexible...
