Petitioning

I've been volunteering to collect signatures to put Obama and his delegates on the Pennsylvania primary ballot. There's a lot of head-scratching from most folks, i.e., "Isn't he already on the ballot??". Nope, no candidate is in this state until they collect at least 2000 signatures from registered Democrats. Anyhow, it seems absolutely amazing ( Read more... )

I once read somewhere about the ideal being Obama as VP so he could spend some time getting the "experience" necessary so we don't have to listen to this nonsense about "inexperience" again, and then he could go for the presidency. But I don't know. I personally think it just as likely he could get tarnished during four or eight years in the VP seat, and as soon as he's done that, I worry he'll lose a lot of what makes him so appealing right now.

I will also just add my own anecdotal evidence, that I keep hearing about people's old, die-hard, staunch Catholic/Baptist, firmly Republican parents/grandparents who are like, "You know, I just really like this Obama guy." I'm a defeatist in my assessment of McCain's appeals to independents, but maybe I've just forgotten that sometimes they swing our way, and maybe Obama can catch them.

Of course, remember, if it's McCain vs. Clinton, at least we have a secret weapon.

Sorry for the double post, but I mean to also throw out there... Eric tipped me off to some buzz out there that Obama may be offering Attorney General to Edwards in return for an endorsement, and... holy crap. That is my dream team. Can you imagine if Edwards were setting the legal agenda for the United States of America? I honestly get adrenaline pumping through me whenever I consider that prospect. I wish we could just get the rumor officially confirmed or denied so I could stop living on this razor edge of hope.

I heard the same thing today from another Obama volunteer. I agree, it would be a fantastic position for him.

Does anyone else find that moderately sleazy? I know everyone does it, but bartering cabinet posts for political support just seems wrong.
