LiveJournal tells me it's been 21 weeks...
...But who's counting?
I'm not going to get into last semester which was, in short, the worst four months of my life. Hence, the lack of entries. But I'm totally, completely, absolutely finished with classes forever. I can't begin to describe the giddiness I feel whenever I come again to that realization.
Last week, I began my 12-week full-time internship at two local elementary schools. My caseload is small (I think I have 27 kids total)and my supervisor has been incredibly kind and supportive thus far. In addition to the kids at the elementary schools, I see a few students at an alternative high school and at a program for children with severe behavioral/emotional problems. The diversity in the needs of students I see on a regular basis is surprising given that I'm located in a rather small rural area. I've learned so much in only a week. There really is only so much you can learn in a classroom, and the rest you just have to do yourself. The fact that I get frequent breaks and am out of work by 3 every day sweetens the deal a bit as well.
I also have a very good shot of getting an extended school year position over the summer, if not a full-time speech/language pathology job for the fall. Between that and...oh, I don't know...getting engaged(!), I kind of feel like I'm leading a charmed life at the moment. I'd be knocking on wood if I were superstitious at all.
My mom and sister came up for the extended weekend to go wedding dress shopping. I actually ordered a dress that I fell in love with the minute I tried it on. Even though the wedding won't be for over a year, it's one thing that's out of the way that I won't have to worry about. The whole wedding planning thing is incredibly exciting, but equally frightening. I'm glad I have such a long time to do it. I have a friend who was engaged a few weeks after I was and set a date in early June of this year. I can't even imagine...
