i belive magie thatcher once said, without the Bomb, there would have been no peace in eroupe.
i have little doubt she was right
mankind faught a war so white hot with rage and fury in the second world war that it exausted the arsnales and manpower of most of the world. it was ended with the atom bomb. no one has ever challanged its supremecy. no one has wanted to see what an atom war would look like. ive no doubt it would be horrid.
but if there were no atom bomb, what then? i have little doubt that the cold war would have turned white hot. world war one was suposed to be the war to end all wars. but 20 years down the line and we had destoryed eroupe, asia, all over agine. tanks littered the wester deserts.
and even with the bomb hanging over his head, stalin never stopped probing. without it, how much more vicouses, out going, might he have been? berlin nearly sparked a war at least twice (the berlin blockade and the check point charlie insident). how much more brutle, how much less subtle, how much more whilling to push just a little father, might people have been, if they hadnt had that dooms day senario hanging over there head?
