Maya, I heard a whisper in my ear. I love you.
My eyes fluttered open and I sat up, a familiar bed but an unfamiliar feeling. Through the doorway I see Byunghun looking through his stuff, but no one is beside me. I slipped out of bed, my legs sore, as if I had been running, I fell to my knees.
Be careful.
“Are you alright?” a gentle hand grabbed onto my arm and pulled me up.
“I’m fine,” I mumbled, my legs failing, causing me to stumble into his chest.
“Fine, you say?” he raised an eyebrow at me, looking down at me. “You don’t seem fine.”
“I’m just tired,” I smile weakly at him, my head spinning in circles.
He still looks at me worried, but I insist I’m fine and trudge to the bathroom. I close the door then look in the mirror too see his face. I gasp, but he suddenly disappears, leaving my heart pounding. I try and burn the image of his smirking persona out of my mind.
I trip out of the bathroom and to the safety of the living room. I hadn’t noticed before, but his presence becomes stronger every second. A cold chill crawls up my spine, breath on my neck.
Dorawa.
Quickly I step away but feel a cold hand wrap around my wrist. I try and shake it off but I’m stuck.
Jebal.
He pleads with me, I look up to him, he seems so real. I shake the thought and try to pull away again, but his hand is firm around my wrist. I glare at his hand, hoping it’ll burn him but nothing happens.
“Please, stop.” I say, my voice breaking. “Just leave me alone.”
His hand suddenly retreats and he disappears. I stare at the spot he once stood and suddenly feel empty.
“What are you doing?” I turn and see Byunghun, I smile and shake my head.
“Nothing,” I bounce over to him. “What’s for breakfast?”
“There’s some bread rolls in the cabinet, but you need to hurry we have school soon,” he says pointing to the kitchen.
“Alright,” I smiled, skipping into the kitchen and grabbing a roll.
I quickly got ready and grabbed my stuff for school, looking in the mirror one last time before bounding out of the room. Byunghun was ready when I stepped into the living room, playing with his orange hair.
“I still can’t believe you dyed it that color,” I teased, he turned to me with a smile.
“I know you like it,” he said.
I shook my head with a laugh, walking out of the house. He followed behind me, his arm suddenly wrapping around my shoulder.
“Such a player,” I giggled as he pulled me into a hug.
When we stepped into the school there was a chaos of rumors. I watched everyone pass by as the two of us entered class, our classmates whispering arrival of a new student.
“I hear he’s in our class,” a girl whispered.
I sat in my seat and waited for class to start, the whispers getting more animated as the clock ticked by. The door suddenly slammed open, our homeroom teacher walking in.
“A new student has come,” she said, her eyes seemed to burn through us. “I expect you all to be good to him. Come in please.”
She turned to the door and a familiar boy strode in, his sharp features leaving me breathless. I stood from my seat, his eyes on me, full of sadness and misery. I could feel tears stinging my eyes, I ran out of the room.
My memories blurring together, his face etched into every part of my brain. I tried to get him, my hands reaching to my head beating it until he would leave. Suddenly I felt hands grasp my wrists stopping me, warm arms wrapping around me.
“Please stop,” he whispered, his voice full of pain. “Stop hurting yourself.”
I cried into his arms, letting everything go. I looked up to see him looking down at us from the classroom window, he suddenly turned away and it was the last thing I remembered before darkness consumed me.
