I was at work late last Friday, prepared to have a pleasant (if unexciting) weekend, when I got an email from U Berkeley. The attachment graciously informed me that they would be unable to offer me a spot in their program for this fall. What was in the mail when I got home? A similar letter from U Washington. For those of you keeping score at home, that's three out of four grad school refusals. I also haven't heard from Chicago, whose website informs applicants that they will begin getting in touch with selected students "around February 1st".
As a result, I've spent much of the past ten days in a gentle funk. I have plans to reapply next year- after taking additional courses (thank you, free tuition, now I know why I work for a university), but still.
Sucks.
I'm sure I'll feel more optimistic in a few days, but right now it feels like it's been February- cold, gray, icy February- forever.
