TO TRANSFER SONGS VIA COMPUTER (RECOMMENDED)

1. In iTunes: File > New Playlist

2. An empty playlist titled "untitled playlist" will appear in the lower corner of itunes. You can rename it by clicking on the words "untitled playlist" once and a text box will appear. For the purposes of this guide I will keep it named "untitled playlist"

3. Add songs you want by clicking and dragging them to "untitled playlist"

4. Plug your iPhone into computer. Depending on your settings, your iTunes will either automatically import this playlist to your phone or you have to manually do it. I have mine set to manual, but I don't know what yours is.

5. Your iPhone should be listed under "Devices" on the left side in iTunes.

6. Click "untitled playlist" and drag it to the name of your iPhone listed in Devices. Your iPhone should now say "synching" or something like that.

7. After about 20-30 seconds it will complete synching. When you click the down arrow next to your iPhone's name to view what's on your iPhone, there should be a new playlist listed.
You can unplug your iPhone now (assuming it is done transfering/synching)

8. Open your iTunes on your iPhone and go to Playlists

9. It should be listed there in alphabetical order.

10. To add new songs to the playlist VIA ITUNES you can repeat starting at step 3. At step 6 a new dialog box will pop up asking if you want to overwrite the current playlist on the iPhone. Click Replace.

TO ADD SONGS TO A PLAYLIST VIA IPHONE WITHOUT COMPUTER (NOT RECOMMENDED UNLESS YOU ARE AWAY FROM YOUR COMPUTER)

12. Select the playlist you wish to edit.

13. Tap the top button "Edit"

14. Tap the Plus sign in the upper left corner

15. All your songs will appear. You can search the songs by dragging the screen down half an inch, it's easier to find songs that way. Once you find the song you want to add to the playlist, tap the blue PLUS next to the song.
The name of the song you chose will turn gray.

16. When you added all the songs you want, Click "Done" in the upper right corner

17. It will return you to the edit screen, click Done again.

18. That's it.

I do NOT recommend adding songs WITHOUT using the computer (steps 11+) unless you are away from your computer. If you sync up the iTunes with the iPhone, it will ask if you want to override the current playlist and you will lose any songs in the playlist that you added WITHOUT the computer. I always always recommend using the computer to transfer playlists unless completely unavoidable and then I only use it as a reminder to remind myself to transfer songs once I get back to my computer. I hope that made sense.
