First Attempt with Movie Feature on Camera

I have spent far too long on this today :) And for a final result which is pretty bad, but I'm still quite excited that I actually managed to make it work and get it uploaded ( Read more... )

Problem I'm having is I import my video (.mov file) into a utiliy I have on the iMac that allows you to make/edit movies, iMovie HD, but for some reason it imports it without the sound and can't figure out how to get around that. If I could get it loaded correctly into the utility then it allows me to export the video as a quicktime file that automatically compresses it. I used the iMovie to make a little 'dancing Doug' video that I posted a week or so ago but I also shot it using the iMovie HD utility so everything worked just fine.

Trying to use already recorded video is giving me the problem :-/

I made a request for help in a post earlier today and one of my friends that is familar with macs told me that the Quicktime Pro version of quicktime lets you compress the video (which is really all I need to do here so that it'll be under the size limitation that LJ has on video you can load into the scrapebook gallery and link too). He said it's about 30 bucks or so and seeing as how I'd like to do more with videos too it seems like a pretty good investment for me.

I'll get my doggie videos on there somehow :-)

Yes, I can see I'll be paying out for the Quicktime facility too. The original video I took in the garden yesterday was 508mb! And only six minutes long, so I really need to compress it a lot otherwise it won't be worth doing. I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the Pro version if you decide to go ahead. Worth it, for the doggie memories :)

tried playing with the iMovie HD again and still couldn't figure out how to import the .mov file with sound... I'd really love to figure it out assuming it is possible but looks like I'll need to go ahead and upgrade to the paid version of quicktime. I'll let you know how it goes :-)

OK thanks. Isn't technology time-consuming.

Sure is. Been looking around on Apple's iMovie HD Help secion and came across this a little while ago (yeah, I know... I should be doing actual work but I'm soooo unmotivated today *grin*). The topic heading was "The audio is missing from my imported Quicktime movie" ... help says that if the video is MPEG-1 Muxed format then it will only import the video portiion of the file. Goes on to tell me how to verify the format. Seeing as how it's from an old digital camera I'm going to think that's going to be the problem. Nothing I'll be able to do but at least it'll be nice to know what the problem is.

Even trying to solve an annoying problem is better than work :)
I see what you're saying - always compatibility issues it seems.
It's a shame you can't bypass the iMac, but I guess that's not an option? I guess that could raise another bunch of problems if it was!
