im really happy about this news, about pluto being properly classified; i know im a dork and no one else cares, but ever since my cosmos class, its really bothered me that plutos called a planet. first off, the orbits of pluto and neptune cross, which by definition means its a TNO - trans-neptunian object. pluto doesnt even orbit the sun on the solar plane, like the other planets do, and i guess that may define exactly whats a planet and whats just a TNO or another type of world. pluto is an icy dwarf, like KBO's (Kuiper belt objects) that occupy the fringe of the solar system. in fact, there are other worlds (one of which is right now known as Xena) that are bigger and more outer planet-like than pluto. other worlds they were considering as planets include Sedna, Quaoar and Varuna.
that concludes this morning space lesson.
