from party websites to sweatshop-free clothing...
Current mood:
high

there is a staggering difference between sexual exploitation and sexual liberation. the sadness behind the laughter is too much for me. i hate to sound like my father, but "the man" has and is generating massive profits by trivializing misogyny to such an extent that i myself have fallen victim to it...(i called someone ugly). while paris hilton cheerfully reduces herself to a brainless shell for publicity, we also have no qualms about verbally attacking her. even the generally more left-wing, educated people i live amongst have left me in complete shock.

in fact, i've never felt as objectified as i have since moving to new york. shallow values weren't a relevant part of my social life philadelphia or other places i've lived. i mean, i've been made aware of all my physical flaws by someone i was sleeping with. how many people can say that? i guess most of this stuff is pretty obvious, but after skimming this book, i'm really outraged. i'm just reacting to what i've read right now, but i really think that anyone working for american apparrel should quit. and i don't want to have anymore pictures taken for websites. oh, and "posing" for a "photoshoot" at Happy Ending need not require you to touch my nipples "by accident".

as for the retarded guys i've met, i never signed up for a fucking beauty pageant, you know? and i'm not a bitch because i don't know how to worship people i don't know. another double standard: guys who are stand-offish and sort of defensive and less complimentary are more attractive...again, obvious i guess, but...

i just feel the need to point this stuff out because i feel like feminism has a very meek voice in 2005. i don't know...
