My cousin had a baby this fall, so I weaned myself of wedding craftery with baby party projects!
First, I hosted the baby shower. Instead of gifts, we had a time capsule theme requesting guests to bring a contribution to a time capsule for the baby to open on her 18th birthday. So, for favors I filled these
favor tins with candies from the 80s and called them mini time capsules.
I tried too hard finding old-school candies and bought from some obscure taffy store near work, but it turns out Diddams party stores have tons of awesome old-school candies.
For the real time capsule, it was pretty easy to prep that. Knowing that my own childhood belongings have lasted much longer than 18 years, we didn't have to worry too much about archival packaging like you do for 100-year time capsules. I got a
sturdy box from The Container Store to fit things like magazines and printouts and made a page of suggested items to help guests come up with ideas. I bought some
blank cards and envelopes from Paper Source so people could write a note to the baby with advice or explanations about what they had included in the time capsule.
Eleven days later, she was born! And one of the baby shower guests suggested we throw her a
red egg and ginger party. Being twinkies, nobody in our family knew what that meant so I did some research. There are no good providers for red egg and ginger party favors or ideas! So I made something up. I just have to say, Target is my friend.
We planned to just buy red M&M's, but at the store I discovered these
new premium M&M's that look like red eggs! Ginger candy was pretty easy to find at Chinese stores.
