To Providence we will go!

Yesterday my friend Sarah and I had quite the adventure. I had to go to Providence, RI for my pre-departure study abroad orientation and Sarah went along to see a friend who lived there. Everything was going just fabulous until we got off the Mass Pike. We exit the Pike and see the giant sign that says Providence and turn with it and then that immediately takes you to a two option exit. Both of the signs at the exit said nothing about Providence or had our road. We took the wrong one. We turned around. We still couldn't find the Providence sign. We kept going and going and then suddenly we were back on the Mass Pike. We had to go about 15-20 minutes on it in the wrong direction just to be able to turn around. Then it took 15 minutes just to get off the damn thing (big line to pay the toll). Then 15-20 minutes back in the right direction. Then exiting off the pike like we did the first time. This time we got it right, however the road that took us to our exit was through the normal city's industrial area and we were really worried we were super wrong. Somehow we did make it to RI. What's incredibly sad is that the whole thing took us an hour out of our way. Oh! and the directions said it would only take 2.5 hours to get there and that was way wrong. So, even though I left 30 minutes early--I still wound up at the 2 hour orientation an hour late. I get there. I park. The whole building is locked--every single door. I am upset because I did not just drive for 4 hours through Mass Pike and city terror in order to miss the thing. I see that a classroom light is on, however it's on the second floor--but there's a fire escape that leads to the window. Being so frustrated as to lose all my dignity, I climb it and knock. Sure enough, there they are. They let me in, but guess what--it's 5:30 and they're done. done. done. done. The alums are gone. The faculty director is gone. I get the handbook and lots of other things and a 5 minute rundown.

ughghghghg!!!!

However, what is nice is that I then went out to dinner with 5 of the other people and we talked and got to know one another and I'm super excited! It's going to be so great!

Now I can say I've been to Providence.

Sarah and I stopped at Whole Foods on the way back and got cookies to make it up to ourselves.
