Our fist project for drawing is a life size self portrait drawn from observation, not pictures. I'm scared shitless.

No worries, I know you can do this and it will be great! I'm sure you'll come up with some creative angle and it will be fabulous because you are fabulous. Take your fear and use it, even if that means doing a self-portrait that shows the fears you currently have. Though I'm not an authority, I do love art and I feel the best and most striking self portraits are the ones that are honest. You'll do a great job.

My first self portrait for figure drawing, i did in the bathroom mirror. came out ok. My final assignment was another self portrait (luckily, i got to use a picture).. but i was naked, and the drawing was 4X5 ft. I'm super proud of it. (ok, it was sortof taken from the back, and i had my panties on, but.. well, if I had a scanner big enough, i'd show it to you.
