In the pre 9 am period this morning at school, one of my 8yr olds was showing his Dr. Who sticker book to his friends and a conversation ensued about Daleks and Cybermen. Who is scarier? The answer remains the same as when I was a child. Cybermen, by far. 4 Daleks may very well be able to beat the faeces out of millions of Cybermen (should they have the ability to poo), but the fact remains that to mere Earth-folk, particularly the small variety, Cybermen spook the brain more than their mean R2D2esque foes.
The conversation tuned to which of the latest 2 Doctors was better. David Tennant seemed to lay claim to that accolade, but many of the children thought that Christopher Eccleston was the better actor. Mr. Tennant is funnier, and that had greater appeal. I didn't tell the children that young Mr. Tennant/McDonald had greater appeal to me too. It would have been inappropriate to explain the reason.... but it has much to do with a Scots accent and a kilt.
All of them thought the last episodes of the series were fantastic. They were honest enough to admit to shedding a tear at Rose's departure (even some of the boys) and some were discerning enough to say that it was a bit overdone. None of them mentioned Catherine Tate. Can't say I blame them.
