So. I heard wonderful things about the Lush deodorants from you, and I finally tried two of them. I was at the west county mall, feeling bizarre and feeling like I was in a mall, when I recognized the little Lush place in Macy's and decided to go investigate. The woman there told me that they only had the deodorants at the Lush in the Galleria in St. Louis, and that they'd give me free samples of any of them other than the one that's already pressed into a shape! I happen to be pretty close to there on days when I leave the house two minutes too late to catch the bus to take me to the metrolink to work, so when that happened, on my way home I stopped by to investigate.
In the mall, I smelled each of the deodoratns they had there on the shelf, and a nice woman who was knitting some really pretty fingerless gloves suggested the patchouli one. I smelled and smelled and couldn't really distinguish between any of them other than the really lemony one that was the only one that I couldn't have a free sample of, so I randomly went with two samples,
this one and
this one.
Friday I tried out the first one at work. It smelled really soapy. I kept getting wafts of soap aroma in my nose all day long at work, but I definitely didn't smell like anything that would be associated with dirt unwashed girl smell. It was alright, but I kept getting these huge wafts of soapy smell. I would have preferred not to have that. Saturday, I put on the second one. It's more of a creamy stuff you rub in. It smells AWFUL to me. I put it on, went to RJ's, and almost immediately made his mom smell my armpits and then went and spent a lot of time with a wash cloth trying to scrub it off of me. It's like, that gross flowery old lady smell. It was making my eyes water, and it was just in my armpits! I've changed shirts three times and scrubbed with a wet wash cloth, and I can still smell it on me. We hung my clothes outside and I tried to stop noticing it. I don't want to say that I'm extra sensitive to perfumes or something, I just really hate the way they smell. I'm wondering though if I should introduce myself that way if I'm ever in that store-in-the-mall situation again though.
I was really excited that these were pretty basic and natural-ish and all, but holy crap, I cannot stand smelling like that. I'm wondering if the soapy smell I got from the first sample was just because it was in the same box as the second one (which I just threw away... I normally would have offered it to someone, but I don't even want to have to smell it on anyone else either!) and if the patchouli might have been much less strong if it hadn't been housed with chunks of "Old Lady Fart," as RJ's mom so kindly put it.
I think I plan on trying the third flavor that I haven't tried yet, and maybe also giving the patchouli one a second chance, since they're free and all, but man. I had higher hopes for these.
The good news is, did you all know that you can go to the mall and they'll cut you off a chunk of fancy, fancy soap for free?
