Don't.
It's still in beta.
I did the install and lost the my wireless. I suspect it might give me problems with my CD ROM too.
If you are using Gutsy Gibbon (Ubuntu 7.10) stay with it until they've had a chance to shake the bugs out.

I spent the morning looking into my wireless grief. I should have used this time to study, but that's another story.
Using some command line tools (mostly ifconfig, dhclient and iwconfig) I was able to connect enough for my wireless router to give me an IP. But when I tried to ping the router, visit a web page or do anything else on the network I get a 'destination host unreachable' message.
I'm not sure what's going on there.

I usually run the next version from about three months before release, as this makes it 100% more likely my bugs will be acted upon.
As it happens, this Compaq 6710b laptop does MUCH better with Hardy than Gutsy.

A bit of titting about has softened my initial impression.
Whilst I've still got issues with my wireless - that's probably specific to my hardware and I expect fixable. I suspect I'll need to get my head around the new PolicyKit to get wireless networking up again - failing find and edit the relevant config files.
The rest of it seems shiny.
I have to admit the "new upgrade available" message makes it a little too easy to go from Gibbon to Heron. It makes it feels like a bug patch and that underplays what's really going on.

No, not related to your post at all. Just a blatant plug & lots of wishing.
