This started out with the simple idea of getting a stereo distortion unit for use in R010R live applications. Quickly I found out that stereo distortion pedals are hard to come by. Once again we are limited by the self imposed cultural boundaries. Only guitars use distortion pedals everything else is taboo and some form of demon worship. ha ha
So in my search I came across this
youtube video Now if the possibilities of that machine have excited you, that is an inkling of my euphoria. Termed simply as "Merzbow in a little box", The Noise Swash is an unbelievably cool little device. Of course I asked my I, Parasite friends about it, because they own one of every effect pedal ever created, and often two of the really cool ones. Of course Chris has a Noise Swash, and I got to mess with the other day at the studio with him on Modular and Nino on guitar.
What ensued was a 45min live noise ceremony that any self respected industrial band would have drooled over. It was sick, and finalized my decision to get a Noise Swash as soon as financially possible. So I designed a layout for a R010R-Noise Swash and I am talking with
4ms Pedals to get it made.
It is a max tweaker swash-every possible modulation. It will be the unfinished brushed aluminum colour-with the bright red R010R explosion symbol spanning the front and sides. The letters on the circles that represent the knobs mean [Large & Small]. I am thinking of using special control knobs from an outside company. Large black with red tops and the smaller black with white or yellow tops. I'll post an image when I finally get the thing in another month or so..
It is something you just cannot capture doing computer music. The uncontrollable chaos of real time noise and synthesis. I want to explore this further with R010R in the next year.
