Why should they not? Ghosts are supposed to be the strongest thoughts and emotions remaining of the deceased, after all. I expect when you're dead, you can believe whatever you like.
When you die, you lose all conscious thought. You into the ground, rot, and wait for this afterlife they always tell us about. Death is a punishment, nothing more, nothing less. Why would we be give the opportunity to visit the life we loved so much? Let dead dogs lie; the colloquialism is true.
