CHARACTER INFO
Character name: Larsa Ferrinas Solidor
Fandom: Final Fantasy XII
Point in canon taken from: After the events on Bahamut, shortly after his coronation as emperor.
Appearance: Larsa is of the Hume (human) race, a thirteen-year-old with a slight build that stands below 5'. Though not as tall or as well-built as other boys, he is still very healthy and light on his feet. He has fair skin, gray eyes, and shoulder-length black hair.
Larsa always has excellent posture, and while he doesn't dress extravagantly, his clothes do give off a very refined, upper-class feel. His typical attire (which can be seen
here) consists of a slashed doublet, white gloves, thigh-high boots, and an emblem of two entwined snakes representing House Solidor. In battle, the boy wields a Joyeuse (one-handed sword) and a curved parrying dagger called Swordbreaker.
Personality: Larsa is, first and foremost, an idealistic pacifist. No longer as naive to the outside world as he used to be before the events of Final Fantasy XII, he understands that peace amongst warring nations will be difficult to achieve, but will still strive for it with all his strength. He is hopeful that old grudges can be overcome, and that words can be exchanged between rulers before swords. As adverse to violence as he may be, the young emperor is no pushover on the battlefield. A swordsman in training, he can defend himself if need be, and will raise his blade in times of danger, willing to lay down his life for those unable to protect themselves.
The boy is very humble and considerate, dispelling any false stereotypes of a snot-nosed noble. As he himself said in the game, Larsa was taught to place the needs of others before his own. He is one willing to do what he can to ensure the well-being of others, be they of Archadia or of a nation that despises his Empire. Resourceful and clear in mind, he uses his power and connections for what he believes is the greater good rather than for personal gain.
As intelligent, gentleman-like, and mature as he may be, Larsa is still a child. He still has much to learn and much to experience in the years ahead of him. Though he does his best to fill the role of strong and reliable emperor, he cannot do everything standing alone. Bearing the burden of empire at such a young age is difficult, especially after facing the loss of many he cared for (father, brother, and guardian all within less than a year's time). Larsa needs the emotional support of friends made on his journey in order to move forward.
History: Under the fake alias "Lamont", Vaan and the rest of the main party first met Larsa in the Skycity of Bhujerba. His main objective (spurred on by the Archadian Senate) was to investigate the use of magicite (magical stones) mined in Bhujerba, as well as their connection to the Draklor Laboratory in his hometown of Archades. After leaving the mines he came across Penelo, Vaan's friend who was kidnapped, and took her with him. Larsa promised to keep the girl safe from harm until he could reunite her with her friends, and the two left Bhujerba on board the airship Leviathan. Once there, Larsa helped Penelo reunite with the main party. He also aided them in their escape back to Bhujerba, but quickly parted ways to return home to Archades.
Having learned that the deaths of Princess Ashe and Captain Basch were staged, he tried to think of a way bring peace to all nations of Ivalice. Behind the scenes of the main party's quest, Larsa kept himself busy. He met and held negotiations with Al-Cid Margrace, a member of the ruling family of the Rozarrian Empire. The two devised a plan to restore Ashe's power as queen of Dalmasca, which would still the hands of the resistance forces that wanted to take down the Archadian Empire. Rozarria hoped to use support of the resistance as pretext for attacking Archadia, but without that, war could be avoided.
Al-Cid agreed to meet Larsa on the sacred Mt. Bur-Omisace. The latter strongly believed that his father would choose peace with Dalmasca, and so he convinced Ashe and the rest of the party to come with him. Their plan was foiled with the news of the power-hungry Vayne becoming Emperor of Archadia, having taken the place of the late Gramis. Shocked by the death of his father, Larsa parted ways once more and quickly left for Archades.
Sometime after his return, Larsa was taken onboard the Skyfortress Bahamut as Vayne steered it toward Dalmasca, ready to strike down the resistance army waiting for him. The boy was unable to use words to stop his brother, and so, as a last resort, he drew his blade instead. Larsa, soon followed by Judge Gabranth, assisted the main party in killing Vayne. The boy, for the most part, made it out in one piece, but Gabranth wasn't as fortunate, having died from mortal wounds. Before his death, the Judge asked Basch to take his place as Larsa's protector.
After Bahamut fell and the battle above Rabanastre was stilled with a ceasefire, Larsa returned to Archades, accompanied by Basch (who must now take on the late Gabranth's identity). The sole survivor of House Solidor, it was Larsa's duty to take the role of emperor as soon as possible. Not even a month after returning home, his coronation was held, making him the youngest emperor in Archadian history.
Example journal:
Who is behind this? A lingering resistance fighter from Dalmasca, or an enemy of the Empire? I can't seem to... get this thing off my arm, either. A tracking device, perhaps? Cuffed by my kidnappers. I had best tread carefully within these halls.
If the strangers I have encountered speak the truth, then there is no reason for me to proclaim my full identity. If anything were to happen to me here, the Empire would be plunged into chaos.
Is there truly no way back? I refuse to sit idly by and let Archadia collapse at my expense.
Example tag:
All are on their guard as Vayne raises his fist, as if ready to strike. "Weep for Dalmasca, for she is lost."
Larsa looks from his brother to his friends, then back to his brother again, the unease in his heart rising. They all have the same look - one of unyielding determination. Vayne is dead-set on enforcing order in the nation of Dalmasca. Ashe, Penelo, and the others... they are dead-set on setting it free. Freedom from the Empire that had stripped away all it held dear. His father's Empire had done this, and Vayne is willing to pay any price to keep it so. Larsa had tried so hard to stop this war... What else could he do now?
"Observe well, Larsa."
This had to end here. Talking wouldn't work; Vayne was too far gone for it. Oh, looking up at the brother he so admired, how he wished it would.
"Watch and mark you the suffering of one who must rule, yet lacks the power."
"... No." Larsa bites his tongue and draws his sword. "No, Brother, I will not."
It hurt to even raise his blade, but if he didn't, countless others would be hurt in his place. Lady Ashe, Penelo, countless innocents in the city below... He didn't want to think of what would happen to them. He wouldn't let it.
"Though I lack your power, I will still persist!"
This man is of his own flesh and blood. Vayne's grace and kindness, his integrity and strength... for all of this and more, Larsa loved him so. Larsa looked up to him all his life. He remembers the last time Vayne looked upon him with a smile.
Now... now Vayne doesn't even look at him. "Bold words, child."
The last words Larsa would ever speak.
