Writer's Block: Investigations of a Female Nature
I suppose she's not technically a detective, but I would say Agent 99 from Get Smart. Played by Barbra Feldon in the original show....
Oh my God, I wanted to be her SO BAD when I was a little girl.
When I actually got my super long hair cut off, I told the lady I wanted it cut like Agent 99. I didn't really understand that the show was a re-run at the time and about 20 years old.... BUT it all worked out in the end.
That's the hair cut I got.... When I went to school the day after the hair cut, I told everyone I was my twin cousin, like on the Patty Duke show, but no one believed me.
Obviously I watched a lot of Nick at Night as a child.....
So, back to Agent 99.... she was glamourous, funny, smart, and she got to use all the cool gadgets from CONTROL like the shoe phone! She went to crazy places and fought crime and had awesome adventures! What else could a girl want?
Seriously, look at her! Gorgeous.
Anne Hathaway played Agent 99 in the new-ish movie, but she just didn't do it for me. Don't get me wrong, I like "Princess Diaries" (as we call her here at the house); I think she's very pretty and a decent actress, but she just didn't cut it as Agent 99 in my opinion.
I thought she looked too young for the roll, and the writer's justification for her looking so long (having to get plastic surgery so she wouldn't be recognized and just deciding to look way younger than she supposedly really is because, well, why not?) was pretty desperate and lame. Maybe that's just a personal problem...
Personally, I don't think anyone would be able to play Agent 99 as well as Barbara Feldon did.
Wow, did they wear some funny hats in the 60s....
