Forty-First Entry [Video]

[Poland is sitting on top of a blanket, out on the patchwork hills. The stars shine brightly in the background.]

So like, how about that last event? Total downer, right? And now the turtle guy's all on about how much the next one's gonna suck...

Bo-ring! I figure we've like, at least got a few hours until the event starts, and it's a nice night, ( Read more... )

[ Lawr trots out to the hills in a long jacket. The nights already have a bit of a bite to them, a telling sign of the encroaching autumn. But drinking and talking with Poland beneath the moonlight? That sounded fun.

He smiles shyly as he approaches the blanket, stopping politely at the edge of it. ]

May I join you, Princess?

[Poland loves the autumn; time for the harvest, a time of plenty, a time to celebrate. He's got a cloak on to ward off the slight chill, but underneath it, his clothes are still quite summery.]

You know it! C'mon, have a seat ♥

[ Lawr smiles and takes a seat, crossing his legs "Indian-style" as he reaches for a beer. Yeah, so he's 14, but really this is nothing new. ]

It's getting chilly out. I don't like cold...

[Pffft, like Poland cares. The boy's from 1410. Legal drinking age? What's that? Will it get me wasted?]

Yeah? It like, won't get cold cold for a while yet, though. I always thought this time of year was kinda nice...

[ Lawr grins, picking at the cap of his bottle before twisting it away and taking a sip. Mmm beer. ]

Where I lived, it never got below seventy degrees. I'm not used to it at all.

Last winter I was here, and I roomed with this guy named Michael. He was an angel, he let me touch his wings once. But... he controlled fire or something, so he always kept it practically tropical in the room for me. I loved... it.

[ Loved him, but that word only lingered in obscurity for a moment before he took another long swig. ]

[Poland takes a sip of his vodka--just a sip, because he's got plenty of it, and he's drinking for relaxation and enjoyment now, not to drunk really drunk. Aaaaaand he's already had some ;;]

Yeah? I guess, like, if you're used to the cities or from way south or something it might be kinda different. But like... to me, this time of year feels like "oh, man, it's totally almost harvest time!" And the trees get all pretty, and the air gets all crisp, and like, there's a bunch of work to do, but it's all rewarding, 'cause at the end of it there's a ton of food, and everyone throws big parties, and it's bitchin'.

[He'll always be a bit of a farm boy at heart.]

Plus, there's nothing quite as awesome as knowing it's freezing outside, and you've got like, two fires and a dozen blankets so you're warm anyway.

[Which is only going to get nicer now that he can snuggle Liet as much and as close as he damn well pleases without it being inappropriate.]

[ Harvest parties? Does not compute. ]

That sounds nice. I've never known anyone who lived on a farm, though. The only thing we really celebrate during Fall is Halloween and Thanksgiving. Halloween was kind of fun, but Thanksgiving always bored me.

Yeaaah, I like, have no clue what either of those are. Are they like, America's holidays?

Thanksgiving is. It's supposed to represent the peace that was found when the Native Americans helped the pilgrims when they first came to the New World. But then the settlers started colonizing and stealing land and killing the natives off with smallpox-infested blankets, so I really don't think it's fair to celebrate anymore.

I thought Halloween was celebrated everywhere though.

Eww. Smallpox is like, grody to the max, and land-stealing is lame.

Like, what is it? Maybe it's got a different name in my time or something.

It's on October 31st. Kids dress up in costumes and go around different houses to get candy.

Costumes and candy? Sounds like, way fun, but no, my people don't have that one.

I'm sure the mansion will do something. I was only here for Christmas last year, but it seems to go all out on some holidays...

It like, didn't really do anything for Fat Thursday or Easter...

[Silly ethnocentric mansion :<]

What's Fat Thursday?

It's like, right before Lent begins, when everyone cooks a bunch of really rich foods to use up the supplies they won't be allowed to cook with until Easter! And we like, have parties, 'cause why not, if we're making a ton of food?
