Poland.... Please calm down.

[Sadly, Canada cannot tell him that everything will be okay, or that none of that will happen. He knows it will happen. Poland will be partitioned, Lithuania will fall under Russia's control, all of it.]

NO! I totally won't! You--you're a nation--you'll turn on me, too! Everyone will!

[Video] 1/2-Feel special, this is probably the longest speech he's ever given to anyone. unseen_maple August 29 2010, 20:24:52 UTC
You're right, I am a nation. And sometimes we wind up against each other no matter what our intentions are. All it takes is one crazy boss or radical political shift...

But that's a fate we all have to accept. And yes. In the future you will be partitioned several times, you will be invaded, Lithuania will fall under Russia's control. And I'm still a young nation, so I can only imagine what something like that would feel like. But you know what?

You'll survive. And so will he. No matter how many times you were attack or invaded. No matter how many battles you lost. No matter who tried to destroy you, you survived. You rose out of the ash with your strength and identity intact. Not every nation has been that lucky. Or that strong.

I'm not going to tell you that everything will be alright, or that you have nothing to worry about. We both know that's a lie. You're going to face countless trials. But you are strong enough to overcome them. I know that for a fact.

[He stops, kind of embarrassed. Giving a speech like that to a nation that's centuries older than him feels... kind of awkward. But he clearly needed to hear this from a fellow nation, and there aren't that many nations around.]

[Poland just... sort of blinks. Normally, that would be more than enough to get him into "well, duh, 'cause I'm totally awesome!" mode, but that doesn't compute with his current state of crazy.]

...I...

They'll hurt me. They'll hurt him. They'll hurt my people--can't let them hurt them...!

They- They will. They will hurt your people and destroy things that you care about, but they will never defeat you.

I came here from the year 2010. Your country still exists. Lithuania still exists. By then he's no longer under Russia's control. Nations all face things that are painful. We share the agony that our people go through, but we share their joy too.

[The crazy loses a bit of ground, as Poland's innate strength and confidence struggle against his bad feelings about the future. Even with the influence of AIDA, it's not really in his character to feel hopeless or powerless, but this isn't exactly something he can just psych himself out of--it goes looking for other weak spots in his psyche, and given his age and the fact that his coping skills aren't as finely honed yet as they're going to be in six centuries, there are plenty of those. It settles on his reluctance to trust strangers.]

...You could be lying. Trying to get me off my guard. Trying to take him from me!

[...He's really not thinking straight right now. Even by his usual, moderately eccentric standards.]

[Mattie still believes that he can talk some sense into his fellow nation. Anyone who lived next door to America in McCarthy era knows how to deal with paranoia. You stay calm and never outright argue with them.]

I could be, yes. There's nothing I could offer you to prove my honesty. But I'm not telling you to trust me. I'm telling you to trust yourself.

You're stronger than people give you credit for. Anyone who has paid any attention to world history know that for a fact. So believe that you will be strong enough to face what's to come. You know you will. But lashing out at everyone here and now, does no good for you in the future.

I don't want to just survive! [He might be crying; it's hard to tell, because the video's badly positioned. If he is, though, he hasn't realized it himself.]

I won't let them get hurt! I won't! I'll--I'll find something, I'll do something, I have to keep them safe!

[The AIDA keeps whispering in his mind, but you can't, it's hopeless, there's nothing you can do...]
