Start in NY

Life has taken an interesting turn recently. Well, a couple of them. Last winter, when applying to schools to transfer to from my community college, I applied to Columbia University School of General Studies. It's really obscure so in a nutshell, it was a college started back in the 40's by Columbia University to deal with all the GI's who didn't quite fit the mold of a normal 18 year old freshman. Now it caters to degree-seeking nontraditional students. You take the same classes and have (for the most part) the same core curriculum. I applied hopefully but mainly just for the hell of it. Got waitlisted and settled on University of Houston and the free rent that living back at home offered. Well, two and a half weeks before school started, I got a letter that said I got in. Super excited, a little pissed off, and really confused.
Most of that has settled now. NY freakin rocks. Like, every day I walk past the cathedral of St John the Divine

and see crazy hipsters walking next to those who are uber-fashionable. It's great!

Anne and I broke up, and that's a bummer, but better now than after a wedding and three kids, I guess. We're still friends and are pretty good at being each other's rock, even though we're not dating anymore. I like that.

Oh, and Emily rocks! She came up and hung out last weekend. Went to some dive bars and semi-dive bars. Got offered coke by a homeless guy. Learned that punching bags in bars lead to the ultimate big-dick-competition possible. More importantly though, I think the NY trip helped bring what had been a psuedo friendship up to full friendship status. So yay for having another good friend.

Upcoming potential news:
Oct 30: really want to go to the DC Rally to Help Restore Sanity
Oct 31: costume is solidified. I'll be the gold-chin guy from the Bad Romance video. Holla!
Nov 2: Alexis is coming up to visit and do all sorts of crazy shenanigans with me. :) Don't think I'll be able to contain that one in a single post.
Nov Thanksgiving: Parents are flying up to visit and see NY for the first time. I haven't even seen much of the city yet so I'm gonna be a crappy tour guide, but there's time to prepare.
