Had to get it in before midnight, because I couldn't get to my leprechaun socks that I intended to wear today. >.<
Anyway, this year's tribute is an Irish lullaby that I rather like, known as "The Castle of Dromore"
October winds lament around the castle of Dromore
Yet peace is in her lofty halls, my loving treasure store
Though autumn leaves may droop and die, a bud of spring are you
Sing hushabye low la loo, low lan
Sing hushabye low la loo
Bring no ill wind to hinder us, my loving babe and me
Dread spirits all of black water, Clan Owen's wild banshee
And Holy Mary pitying us to Heaven for grace doth sue
Take time to thrive, my ray of hope, in the garden of Dromore
Take heed, young eaglet, till your wings are feathered fit to soar
A little rest and then our land is full of work to do
Maybe I should have used "Bold Fenian Men" Which has been another of my recent favorites.
'Twas down by the glenside,
I met an old woman,
A'plucking young nettles,
Not saw I was coming;
I listened awhile
To the song she was humming,
"Glory O, glory O,
To the Bold Fenian men!"
'Tis fifty long years
since I saw the moon beaming
On strong manly forms,
Their eyes with hope gleaming
I see them again
Sure, through
all my sad dreaming,
"Glory O, glory O,
To the Bold Fenian men!"
When I was a colleen
Their marching and drilling
Awoke by the glenside
Sounds awesome and thrilling
But they loved dear old Ireland
And to die they were willing
"Glory O, glory O,
To the Bold Fenian men!"
Some died by the glenside
Some died amid strangers,
And wise man have told us
Their cause was a failure;
But they stood by dear Ireland
And never feared danger,
"Glory O, glory O,
To the Bold Fenian men!"
I passed on my way,
God be praised that I met her,
Be my life long or short
I shall never forget her;
We may have great men,
But we'll never have better.
"Glory O, glory O,
To the Bold Fenian men!"
OK, well I could go on considering the majority of what I listen to is Irish in some form or another... so in closing...
Damn the Catholics and their culture-killing ways!
Don't drink to remember... Drink to forget.
