Why you should read this: I'm finding it hard to express what I admire about this story without giving away the central premise. So if you want to read it entirely cold, which wouldn't be a bad thing, don't read the rest of this review. At heart, this story is a very clever play on the theme of the convenient marraige--possibly the most original and inventive I've ever read, not only because of the clever reversal, but because it gets right to the heart of the day to day experience of intimacy through a slow unfolding of character that's unrushed and seemingly, at first read, incidental. But by the end, oh, you know these characters so well, and yet not nearly so well as they know each other, which is *exactly* as it should be.
