The shower is a good place for deep thought. The only place better is in the rain, standing over two dead bodies.
This is a subtle-yet-powerful fic that provides some lovely exploration of Dean's issues and perception of himself, in particular how he struggles to come to terms with Castiel's devotion to him. It also has hurt!Dean and protective!Castiel, which is one of my favourite tropes in D/C fic, and the opening gives some nice introspection on the distinction between 'person' and 'monster'. This is an achy, evocative read that doesn't pull its punches, with a killer last line that won't leave you for a long time after you've finished reading.
