Brief summary: AJ goes through a lot in this story and you wonder how he can deal with everything. AJ and Sarah have an understanding, but Chris isn't part of it nor does he want to be. AJ gets left in the dust and when he and Sarah have problems, Chris may not be there to help him this time around. A piece originally written as an improv piece and based on lyrics from "A Long December" by The Counting Crows. Somehow, it all works.
"Me and Sarah, we have this understanding."
"Understanding."
"Yeah."
"So she knows you sleep with other people. That you slept with
me."
"Not you specifically, but yeah."
"That's so reassuring.

She's pregnant, and it's his, and he's pretty much got to get
married, even though he doesn't want to, he realizes now. Never
maybe really wanted to, except he wanted someone to love and
someone to love him who wasn't going anywhere, who was his.
Because he needed it. Except he doesn't need Sarah, and maybe it's
just a panic reaction.

"Wow. So, tell me about her - is she blonde, brunette, or redhead? Built?"
"Tall. Blond. Blue eyes. Built like a brick shithouse," Joey grinned, and Nick nearly choked on a mouthful of beer. "Oh, hey - are you okay, Nick?" Joey asked innocently, handing him a handful of napkins.
"I'm fine," Nick said, wiping himself off. "Just. Wasn't expecting it to go down that way."
"Maybe we should stay and check this girl out, eh, Nick?" Chris asked. "Maybe see if she's got any sisters."
"Oh, um," Nick said. "I don't know - "
"No sisters," Joey said, quickly. "Well, yeah, but they're, you know, underage."
"_Really_ underage," Nick muttered.
