Table: Leisure Tea

Apr 21, 2014 13:35

I was in the mood for something more casual and cutesy, so I picked out Leisure Tea to try. It's a very quaintly decorated place, with wooden beams and benches, teacups, and artwork all over. Their plates and cups are all kind of mismatching and pretty with old-fashioned charm.

Anata ordered their mango slush with coconut jelly. The drink comes with mango pieces on top, and the natural fruit really comes through very strongly. It's super tasty, and fresh. I think the coconut jelly actually detracted from the drink since it was so sweet and the syrup actually ruined the natural flavours for me. Just enjoy the mango by itself!

Anata ordered their chicken waffle, which came with mayo drizzled all over it, and cucumber and tomato. The chicken was cooked in the typical Taiwanese style, deep fried, and lots of the salt and pepper spices. I admit I don't really see the whole chicken waffle charm. Anata says he thinks when it comes with a sweet berry compote on top, or some kind of sweet syrup, that it tastes better. Maybe if it's a chicken waffle sandwich...

We went with the whole deep fried platter, which came with fish cake, tofu, and chicken, served with a sweet chili dipping sauce. Kind of oily and straightforward.

I thought the deep fried mushroom sounded interesting, and I have to give them props in that the mushroom wasn't super soggy since there's a fair amount of water content in those things, but it didn't quite hit the mark that I thought it would be. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't really amazing, as it was also kind of straightforward deep fried mushroom. The batter that they used wasn't spiced as much as the chicken or fish cake, so it was kind of plain. I was thinking the earthy taste of the mushroom would create a nice flavour profile, but it didn't really come through for me, and it was kind of plain. I ended up using the sweet chili sauce to dip the mushrooms too.

I ordered the passionfruit-pineapple hot tea, and it came with a lot of pineapple chunks in the pot, along with a tea bag. It was really concentrated and strong. The taste was like drinking hot juice!

It was really sweet, with the lovely tang from the passionfruit and pineapple. If it's too much, I'd recommend getting hot water to thin it down a little. I really enjoyed the tea. It was $6.75 but I really enjoyed the drink and I even ate some of the pineapple chunks when I was done with the tea, haha.

Leisure Tea seems to be a place where you can chat and hang out, while enjoying savoury and sweet items. It's not cheap, but I highly recommend their drinks. The deep fried snacks aren't really worth it, but the chicken waffle isn't bad, and the crepes look like they'd be delicious.
