Actually, in theory, I could catalog that!queenamidala18December 31 2006, 01:58:48 UTC
LOL. A history of the mitten or a classification of the mitten?
Just in case you all were wondering, in terms of subject headings, you would use the broader term clothing and dress or the narrower term gloves using Library of Congress. It's classification number will vary depending on the type of glove and its use. Based off Christie's dream, I would use "Manners and customs (General)--Costume. Dress. Fashion--Materials and articles of clothing. Details and accessories--Gloves" GT7120 (the rest of the number is made up 1 or 2 Cutter numbers which are based off the author's last name or subject and then a date of publication can be added as well).
Now with my "frienamy" Dewey, I could create a number using the manuals for a book about warriors in the middle ages who did not use mittens/gloves. You can get that freakishly detailed with Dewey. (In cataloging class we had to find the number for a book from a museum exhibit in Las Vegas about photographs of hedgehogs--and Dewey lets you do that. Took me hours to figure it out, but I did it!) However, Dewey can be a bit crazy and I'm not always good with it.
