Well the wait is over for those that have been anxious for another look into my life. I feel inspired by the music and I shall give it my best. I must admit that I don't really have a direction for the entry tonight so we'll see where we end up. I suppose I'll just get everyone up to speed on the happenings as of late in my life. For the most part life has been consumed by three things, school, work, and tennis.
When it comes to school these days it's all a matter of finishing up and getting to the finish line. Classes are going pretty well. Art History is taught by a lackluster professor, but the curriculum is nothing to fret about so at least it doesn't add any stress, so I'm satisfied with it. My History of Iran and Iraq is taught by a man extensively well versed on the subject so it has made for some fascinating lectures. My History of Asia and the Pacific Rim course is taught by a great professor that always has me laughing. He has the best sense of humor I've ever encountered in college. I'm always anxious to go to his class and the content fascinates me as Asia is becoming a more profound player in global politics. My History of Native Americans course is taught by a man that just seems to live life to the fullest and with a real sense of optimism. It leaks out in his lectures and is a real joy to have for a professor. So I'd say that things are moving quite smoothly thus far and I hope for the same the rest of the way.
What to say about work. It's work. I must admit that for work it's not to shabby as there are a number of perks. The tasks are simple, which is what I wanted so I could focus more on school, and the schedule is conducive to my school schedule. I have every major holiday off as you're only scheduled to work on your set days and none of them fall on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Day, New Years Eve and Day, I've got it off. I was really happy to find that out as it'll give me a chance to be home for them. Did I mention that the tips are substantial. Not including my training week, I've accumulated over $100 over the 9 days that I've worked. I work only 24 hours a week so that on top of my regular pay really sweetens the deal. I will say that part of me really misses the Little Caesars contingent though. I have a lot of great memories there and I shall never forget them.
On to the tennis. I had a tennis tournament two weeks ago. Let me tell you I wasn't quite prepared for it. It started at 7:30 in the morning and for those that don't remember it was a chilly 45 degrees or so. It took me an entire match to warm up. Then came the kicker, after I was victorious 6-1, 6-1, they told me that I have 5-10 mins before my next match. I thought oh well at least I wasn't that tired. So my next match was a bit more challenging as my opponent was considerably better, but I came out on top 6-2, 6-3. I thought surely there will be a break for lunch. No such luck. I was then told which court I'd be playing on next and my opponent. The name sounded familiar and sure enough I remembered that he was the runner-up from the tournament last year. At this point I had already played three 2 and half hours of competitive tennis. I can say that I left everything out on the court as they, as I knew that if I won I would be in the quarterfinals and would make it to the next day, so Monica could watch me play. It was a slugfest to say the least. I had set point in the first, but I squandered it only to lose in tiebreak 7-6 (10-8). By this point I was just letting everything ride and swing away. This was my finest tennis to date unfortunately it was not good enough. I got a set point in the second as well, unfortunately I would go on to lose it in tiebreak again 7-6 (15-13). Was I disappointed that I lost, you betcha. But, I was pleased with the way I played. My final match last almost three hours. It was nice to play in front of a crowd again and get that thrill of competitive tennis. It is a good memory that I shall treasure forever. Hopefully I'll have a chance to make it past the quarterfinals next year or have a good showing in the Mount Pleasant Open this upcoming summer.
Well I've got to get up on the earlier side so with any luck I'll return to my journal for a more meaty entry tomorrow. I hope everyone is well and that you're able to find joy in your lives.
