I don't wanna read 45 pages about Paul Gaughin and what he did in Tahiti! [stomps feet, throws things]
Primitivism stinks. The idea is good but I just don't like looking at the products thereof. Especially in this course packet, as the freakin' Xeroxes are functionally useless; the large rectangle of medium-dark grey that is allegedly Gaughin's 1892 piece "Words of the Devil" looks like it could just as easily be a Rothko.
So much of 20th Century art is devastatingly brilliant, but so much of it is just bullshit. I'll continue development on this theme throughout the semester.
It's still better than reading about the past 5 millennia of Chinese vases though...
