So I'm up @ my mom's this weekend, helping her and Jason fix both cars, which have both broken down in the past week. (see also: methinks I left just in the nick of time.)
Lessee, what else is new? Experimental painting went in a new direction today, as I picked up a couple pennants from the sports memorabilia store on North Ave. I thought I'd keep one in pretty nice condition for my room (even if it is only the Blackhawks), and I was gonna try painting on the other.
Otherwise, I participated in my 2nd-3rd favorite pasttime, "Screwing around in a music store." So the guy behind the counter plugs me into an amp about the size of my dad's stove (heh), and off I go.
First axe I try: 5 string. Pretty nice, damn good sound, but I don't know enough songs that use a 5th string as of now. Why not? 'Cause I have a 4-string and what's the point in learning a 5-string song?
Next: 4-string, fretless. Slides and bends sounded abso-tively sick on this thing.
Third: a 12-string bass. Yes. Like a 12-string guitar is each string doubled (6x2), this was,...um...4x3. Man alive. Heavier songs didn't sound that good, but more classic rock/melodic stuff (Sunshine of Your Love, Sugar Plum Fairies, etc...) was really cool sounding. It was also $650 so I think I'll hold off for a while. ;)
Ran into two of my friends from h.s who I haven't seen in like 2 years today, which made me happy.
Took my inaugural stab at the Buckle challenge, and I made it all the way to the back of the store, no problem. Coming back to the front, there were like 4 people behind the counter so I was thinking, "Oh well, I'm dead." Suddenly, both phones ring, and 2 customers come up to the counter. So I'm thinking "Screen play!" and, man of action that I am, I make my way expeditiously to the watch case, then pinball from one rack to the other. The voice of Chris Berman, booming, "He...could...go...all...the...way..." in my head, when all of a sudden, "Can I help you with something?" I giggle to myself as I'm 5 ft. away from the door, then I turn around - I never mind getting stopped in Buckle 'cause usually the sales girls are cute ;) - and it happened to be the manager in charge of hiring. So I talked to her for a spell and she told me she had a couple hundred applications to go through. So I think, "Damn." and go on my way.
I have a more normal painting in the works, so I'm not completely off in left field. Only mildly.
I also have a wildly "all over the place" writing in the works, whether or not I post it, I kinda shrug at
