Friday the thirteenth.

Leo was never one to believe superstition. There were only coincidences, and there were no supernatural forces acting on daily life. Every friday the thirteenth he experienced had been manageable. But today, he had a strong suspicion that somebody was playing pranks on them. Who would dare do that - he didn't know. But it had to be someone.

He resisted a groan when the elevator shook, hand clamping down on the top of his stack of papers to prevent them from falling. His back pressed against the elevator wall to brace himself as the elevator slowed to a stop. Not at his floor, nor Irie's floor.

Someone was going to get fired today. He could already see it.

Oh no. No, no, no, no. "No, no, no, no, no." Shouichi glanced at the lights, then the pushboard. "Oh no." Shouichi shifted his hold on the papers and stepped over to the push board, pressing the bright red emergency phone button.

Shouichi felt like beating his head against the wall when for a second there was no answer. Then Shouichi did let his head thunk slightly against the wall when there wasn't an answer after several minutes. Maintenance must be busy, just his luck.

Sighing, Leo bent down and placed his papers on the floor, brows knitted. With all the mishaps that had been happening today, obviously all the phone lines must be busy, including the emergency number. It would probably be a while before they were rescued.

"We can't help it, Irie-san," he muttered, glancing over to the other. It was frustrating indeed, but really there was nothing they can do at this point.

He didn't suppose this would fly well as an excuse for not having his work done. Byakuran wasn't that reasonable, after all.

Shouichi sighed. "I suppose not." Shouichi fished through his pants pockets and pulled out his cell phone. Shouichi checked to see if he had reception.

No bars, of course, all the metal was probably cutting off reception. Sometimes Shouichi could get reception in the elevators, sometimes he couldn't. "If it's a problem with the elevator, Leo-kun, we can't, if it's a problem with the computer…" Shouichi reached into his open suit coat and pulled out a small tool set, "I might be able to do something." Though Shouichi wasn't really sure what or if he would even be able to access the elevator's computer from inside the elevator. He assumed so, but he wasn't an elevator expert.

Leo raised an eyebrow. Really, Irie didn't know everything. And he doubted that the guy could really do anything for them at this point and time, when the problem they were facing was probably related to electrical errors rather than an issue with the main computer circuit.

Still, he watched.

"Why don't we just wait?" Leo let out a wry chuckle and tugged at his tie. It was probably useless to try to talk to Irie, someone who was rumored to be a workaholic.

Either way, if Irie didn't give up, Leo could watch him struggle. Amusement came in many ways.

Shouichi frowned at the brass panel. "...probably a better idea." Shouichi fingered the edge of his black plastic box before sitting down on the ground. He'd give it fifteen minutes, and then he'd start doing something to get them out of there.

"Don't have anywhere you need to be?" Shouichi questioned. Byakuran was notoriously... himself, Shouichi doubted Leo had it easy.

Leo deposited himself on the ground as well, three feet away from Irie. For some reason or another, he was somewhat relieved. Being trapped in a space like this was never a good thing, but it offered him a brief moment of peace, away from Byakuran's presence. It wouldn't last long though, nor would Leo want it to.

He just needed some time to breathe, perhaps.

"I do," he answered, scratching the back of his head. "But it's not my fault that the elevator stopped working."

"... Is it?" He added, as an after thought.

"If it's anyone's fault, it's probably maintenance." Not that Shouichi wished to blame Maintenance. The guy's in maintenance were actually pretty cool, once you got past the whole 'we take out the trash' thing. Shouichi had a feeling that if Byakuran ever needed to kill someone, he could easily use someone from maintenance to do it.

"But most likely it's no one's fault, I think I heard they were having trouble this morning." Which meant it could be anything from an electrical problem to programming issue to the elevators preparing to send someone to a messy bloody heap on the bottom floor. Considering the date, perhaps it was ghosts.

"Is i- oh." Shouichi shrugged. "I don't actually know anything about elevators, so any fiddling I did would at worst kill us both and would at best possibly triggor the doors to open. So, probably not a good idea to mess with." Shouichi could admit his faults. Any messing he did would, probably, just give him something to waste his time on, and burn his fingers.
