can we use the box animals in this?

Yes! I do not consider box animals as characters, since they are also weapons.

1) Does the inclusion of box animals belonging to other characters count as additional characters causing you to use a skip or are all box animals freebies?
2) Does our character have to be present in the icon, or could we only use their box animal? (for example using two box animals in the fight format.)

1) Since I consider a box animal as more of a representative of each character, I think that it's best to consider another character's box animal as a representation of another character, so a skip would be used for it (I hope I explained that correctly).

2) Going along with my answer to #1, it makes sense that for this theme, just a box animal is enough to represent your character (though, likely would not be allowed for other challenges/themes).
