What's good in the 'hood...
Oh my gosh look. What is that thing? NO, DON'T COME ANY CLOSER! Oh wait, it's just me actually making an LJ post. :P
I suppose an update on my goings-on would be a good idea... nothing terribly exciting, just work and life as usual for the most part, but it has been a lonnnnnng time since my last entry!
Major events? Hmm. Well, at the end of March I visited bratflorida down in (dun dun dunnnnnn) Florida. That's about all I've been up to on the travel front, and we had a BLAST. Fandom meetups are special; when else could you ever be that happy that someone gave you old magazines for your birthday, or stay up until 4am drinking Scotch and talking about Life on Mars fan fiction? Brat even made me an EASTER BASKET. With bunny ears to wear and everything. *sobs with joy*
Similarly, I myself received a visit from the intrepid littleotter73 last week. We survived a bout with severe drunkenness, an actual tornado, and a broken MacBook Pro (only loosely related to the previous two events). Once those obstacles were dealt with, we spent the rest of the week being indulgent and eating everything in sight-- we went to Ravenswood, The Algonquin (while visiting Lake George along with my mom, who was happy to be dragged along for the ride), Sakura Sushi House, Dinosaur Barbeque, and Wheatfields Bistro. We also cooked at home a bit and went to a small rooftop dinner party thrown by one of my besties. Repeated visits to the Apple Store aside, it was quite a fun week! Local wine shops may need a small amount of time to recover stock levels, but we can't blame The Otter for that. ^_~
On the fic front, I just finished a Life on Mars five-parter. It's a series of shorts themed around shirts worn by Gene Hunt throughout the series. The stories aren't connected by anything but the shirt-y theme, and there's a bit of everything going on (gen, het, slash, angst, fluff, etc). It's posted at AO3 in complete form: Five Shirts @ AO3 or at the LJ comm in individual parts: White, Green, Yellow, Blue, and Pink. Response to the last part has been a bit... slow, so far. Pretty sure it's mainly a combination of bad timing and people being really busy, but I've been moping pathetically about it anyway (it's true) since I was so excited it was done. Maybe feedback will pick up a bit on the weekend!
Speaking of AO3, I did finally start using it and spending some time browsing through fic there. Seems like it's the place to be, these days.
Next in fic land I want to finish up a quick one that I started writing last weekend, which is basically a tag for Life on Mars episode 1x6 involving Gene/Annie-in-a-nurse's-uniform. It was originally meant to be PWP of sorts, but ended up including a journey through Gene's youth with a very small side order of history lessons about the National Health Service. Why yes, I will do nearly anything to justify the conditions for smut. -_-
After that, it's going to be mutli-fandom WiP cleanup time. I've got things that need finishing in BtVS, State of Play, and Life on Mars, and I want to spend some effort on those before beginning anything new. So if I left you hanging on a work in progress... sorry about that. I really am going to try and get that sorted. *smiles angelically*
