...and now that I'm home after a proper night's sleep in my own bed, I can write about it!
I've spent the past week traveling up and down the East Coast, and I've had a great time! I spent last weekend in New York City, where I met up with some old friends and went to see a flippin' awesome concert by Frank Turner at Webster Hall with impressive opening performances by Larry and his Flask and Jenny Owen Youngs. I attended the show by myself, but managed to be a bit social. The best friendship I forged was with one of the most important people possible-- the bartender! :P
Later that evening I'm pretty sure I had a whirlwind romance with a Scottish couple, and smoked cigarettes with French Spiderman. In other words, a normal evening by my standards.
The following day my best pal Anne and I had a fortifying breakfast of bloody marys and gourmet macaroni and cheese before it was time for me to depart on the next leg of my journey. I enjoyed a cab ride with an old charmer of a New York cabbie, and we had a great conversation about wine-- he even invited me to come see his wine-making production, but understood that my boyfriend probably wouldn't like that!
At this point it was time to enjoy my first trip on the notorious Megabus. It was actually quite pleasant, even though it was a long journey. I slept through most of the trip, waking up briefly and assuming I was in Delaware due to the frightful proliferation of chemical plants that seemed to surround the highway.
I arrived at Union Station in Washington DC around 7pm and met up with the intrepid duo of
littleotter73 and
il_mio_capitano! Mr. Capitano tagged along for il_mio's visit from England, and was also in attendance. ^_^
For the next several days we enjoyed lots of food, wine, and various entertainments at at Casa de Otter (Das Otterhaus? Chez Otter? Hmm). The whole Otter family was there, including mini Otters and doggy companions. Three house guests made for a pleasantly wacky atmosphere! We enjoyed some explorations in the local area, saw a few sights, and had a couple very nice meals out!
On Thursday evening Otter and myself cooked up some scrumptious red sauce for a pasta feast that was also attended by local fandom buddy
harmony033! It was nice to finally put a face to the name-- she also plied us with Champagne, which was a very effective way to worm herself into my affections. *bats eyelashes* After dinner we settled in for some group Buffywatching, which was tremendous fun.
Oooh, I almost forgot to talk about the part where Mr. Capitano and I ate a puffball mushroom that he found in the woods. Certain other people were not sufficiently brave to try it. I am happy to report that it was delicious, and I'm pretty sure the rest of our Friday was not some sort of mass hallucination. XD
I suppose my only regret is that I totally failed to meet up with Life on Mars pal
pollosmoky, who also lives nearby. The week went by too fast, and I was happy to drift along with everyone else's plans-- hopefully we'll get a chance to meet up for that drink some other time! *cries into hanky*
On Saturday morning I said goodbye to Otter and the Capitanos (oooh, sounds like a 60's band) as they flew off to New York City for a weekend of touristy fun. Mr. Otter was kind enough to drop me off at the DC Metro, and my return journey began!
The train from Union Station was full, but I had a quiet and friendly travel companion.
Delaware = still hideous.
But what's this? I arrived at New York Penn Station around 4:30, and what sight was there to greet me under the massively ugly and frustrating departures board? Why it was
littleotter73,
il_mio_capitano, and Mr. Capitano! Their hotel turned out to be right across from the station, so they decided to pop in and spice up my short layover! We had just enough time for a drink before I had to run for the train. *SNUGGLICIOUS HUGS FOR ALL* 'Snugglicious' is a word now.
And that's that! I've got one day to rest before it's time to return to work. That day happens to be a Sunday, and we all know what that means-- time to drink wine and go to the
lifein1973 chat and watchalong! I caught up on Mad Dogs 2 on the train so I'm ready to watch this afternoon, guys! Should be a nice relaxing end to an absolutely brilliant week. ^_~
