Yup, being back at work is pretty much life as normal.
Wednesday we did a huge cleanout of the birdroom - we being me, Riley, and the young guy we're training up in birds, Aaron. He's going really well, he wants to learn all parts of the job and Riley and I both think he's going to be really promising once he gets a bit of knowledge. We cleaned out all the cages, scrubbed the floor, wall and the roof, cleaned out the cupboards, cleaned the air vents - the place is sparkling! Well, not really - birds are MESSY little things and the birdroom isn't the flashest part of the store, but it looks noticeably better than it did.
Anyway, I'm already missing being on holidays. I did manage to finish watching the sixth and last season of Dawson's Creek - yes, I know it's a teen soapie, and cliched, and they don't speak like realistic people, and all the rest of it, but I always enjoyed it. I shed copious amounts of tears watching the last two episodes, when Jen dies, leaving her one-year-old daughter in the care of Jack. While the show doesn't hold the same sort of appeal that Firefly or Alias does for me, I think the reason I enjoyed Dawson's so much was because of the character work, which was exceptional. A major key of any story is to make your audience care about the characters - and watching Jen dying, sobbing in Jack's arms because she was afraid to leave her daughter, I cared about what happened to her.
Speaking of Alias, I've now moved on to watching the third season. I seem to require a box set in my life I can curl up on the couch with Calypso or one of the X-pigs and watch. I'm always twitchy about watching season three because I can't bear all the romantic angst after the sweet Syd-Vaughn moments of the last season. But I really wanted to watch all the seasons, and since James brought me number four for Christmas I can't skip this one :P Anyway, while I'm completely obsessed with Sydney and Vaughn they are far from the sole reason I watch Alias. The story JJ can pack into forty-five minutes is mind-blowing - only Firefly comes close to achieving the sheer volume of action in a single episode the way Alias can. It's like watching a movie every epp.
I've been having a ball at Wajas, the adoptable pet site I joiend about a monht ago. My pack is expanding nicely, money is being made, pups are being born, and I got my first CWP today and I'm just one more away from a three-month subscription (WHOO!) All very entertaining.
So, I've been passing time with fiction, work, James and animals, as is usual! I'm almost finished with my Christmas art and it WILL be up at DA soon! :D
