Blue.
Anakin's first thought upon opening his eyes was that his lightsaber was blue. He wondered if somehow he had done it on purpose. If subconsciously, he wanted it to be blue. Or was it simply a coincidence?
He pulled himself together long enough to exit the cave where he had been in meditation to construct his new lightsaber, but his thoughts traveled where they wished.
Qui-Gon had possessed a green lightsaber. He remembered that well, because it had been the first one Anakin had ever seen. After Qui-Gon's death, Obi-Wan had kept the green-bladed weapon because his own lightsaber had been lost in the same battle. And when Anakin had been allowed to build his first lightsaber, it had been green also.
Somewhere along the way, Obi-Wan had lost or damaged Qui-Gon's saber, or perhaps simply he'd simply decided he needed to build one of his own again - Anakin didn't remember now, if he'd ever really known at all - and his new one had a shimmering blue blade. And now, after Anakin's first lightsaber was lost in the battle on Geonosis, and he'd been forced to construct a new one, he found that it once more matched his Master's.
He wasn't really sure what he'd been expecting. A red blade like that of a Sith or, gods forbid, Ferus Olin? Or a purple one like Mace Windu's? Anakin made a slight face at the thought of both Jedi, and instead examined the hilt of his weapon.
The metal felt cool and inviting under his grip, and it fit his hand perfectly, of course. It was precisely balanced, and he gave it a few experimental swings as though hacking a droid to bits. It felt perfect underneath his fingers, just like the person waiting for him to return from his meditation. He couldn't have constructed it better if he'd been lucid. It was the only time Anakin willingly meditated, when he could build things at the same time.
His thoughts once again turning to the blade's hue, he realized he'd probably expected the blade to be green again, since both of the ones Obi-Wan had constructed had been the same color. Was one color more defining of a being's personality? Did it say something about him, that he had built two lightsabers, each of a different hue, while Obi-Wan's had remained the same?
He wasn't sure. But he knew he didn't mind. He didn't give a damn if his subconscious was trying to tell him something through the color of his lightsaber blade. Blue reminded him of the sea, which was not sand, and of the sky, which was where he could fly, and of Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan, who had a blue lightsaber and sometimes blue eyes. Obi-Wan, who was waiting for him right now.
Anakin quickened his steps as he headed toward the small outpost, intent on reaching his lover soon. If he had to be like someone, there was nobody better to emulate than Obi-Wan Kenobi.
