Like probably everyone on my friends list today, I'm going to post pictures of all the food I made last night. But first, I want to say how much fun I had last night. I am very lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful friends. Cappy and her husband are here visiting from Germany. Cappy and I went to high school together and then lived together for two years during college. She's one of my absolute favorite people of all time. You can't be around her and not be smiling. And she announced on Wednesday when she arrived that she would be eating for two this year. Yay! I'm so happy that she is going to be a mom.
Cappy was such a help in the kitchen, too. She and I made the perfect team. We never got in each other's way and we never got stressed out about cooking the dinner. Everything just worked out perfectly.
The nice thing about having Thanksgiving in a country where they don't celebrate it, is that when you realize that you are missing an ingredient, you can just go to the grocery store and get it. We sent Travis out four times yesterday for stuff. He was very helpful.
Alrighty, so here are the pictures!
Pumpkin Orange Marscapone Pies cooling - I made too much filling, so we decided to make two pies out of it. Here they are, cooling by the window. I'm not sure why the larger one looks burned in the picture - I assure you it wasn't.
Here are my toffee almond crunch bars cooling by the window:
And here they are after they've been chilled and cut:
Here are the appetizers (thanks to Cappy for making them look so pretty!):
The rest of the appetizers - waiting to go into the oven when the guest arrive:
These crepes are so delicious. They're supposed to have salmon in them, but of course I make them vegetarian.
And then here's the rest of the spread, all ready for everyone to eat. Cranberry Sauce & mashed potatoes (for which I am famous):
Mushroom gravy and tofurkey:
Vegetarian stuffing - I found this recipe on the internet, so I was a little nervous about it. It was amazing. I highly recommend it:
Yams. With Marshmallows. How American.
Travis and Cappy carve the turkey. I'm glad I didn't have to do anything with that.
I didn't forget the rolls this year! They were served warm:
I wanted to take a picture of a piece of pie with whipped cream on it, but I forgot until I was halfway through my slice:
Yes, I made the whipped cream, too.
Pretty much everything was made from scratch and it was all so amazing that I'm shocked I made it. I will send recipes to anyone that wants them. Happy Thanksgiving!
