My sister was here all weekend. She arrived late on Thursday night and stayed through to Tuesday morning. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun. For those of you who don't know, my sister is 2 and a half years older than me, but she's been married for ten years. When we lived in the same house, we HATED each other, but over the years we've become very close. I never had the opportunity to just hang out with her like we were friends. This weekend was the longest we've ever spent together - just the two of us. And boy were we busy!
Friday
On Friday morning, we woke up very early to make it to Regis and Kelly! When we arrived, we were told that Regis wouldn't be there that day. Boo! However, Wilmer Valderrama was the guest co-host and he was very good! Kelly broke the world record for most pies thrown in a face in under a minute (24). Another couple also broke the record for most tango spins in one minute (37). Kind of lame records to break, but still exciting to watch!
Wilmer came out with a fancy shirt for the Tango couple!
Kelly making a face:
Watching tango spins takes concentration:
Before the show started a guy walked over to us in the front row, pointed to some plastic on the floor, and said, "They're going to be throwing pies, so just use that to cover up," and walked away. My sister just laughed and the lady next to her said, "Was he serious?" Lisa told her that no, he wasn't serious. Oh, but he was! Here's Lisa wrapped up in plastic:
And here's me wrapped in plastic:
Wilmer was almost more excited about the pie throwing than Kelly was. He was so cute about encouraging her. When his safety glasses fell off he told her to keep them coming! See? She appreciated it!
After RegisWilmer and Kelly we decided to go to the Museum of Natural History. I've never been there before. It was neat! Lisa and I decided that every picture should involve one of us being a cheesy tourist.
Wait, wasn't something missing in that last picture? Oh yeah, here, this one's much better!
This bird has a faux-hawk! Just like me!
Can you tell we liked the elephants?
I like this one the most:
And here is where I'm being attacked by puppets in the gift shop:
After the museum we had dinner at Vynl, my new favorite restaurant. It was delicious! Then we headed out to see Tarzan on Broadway. It was AMAZING. I totally cried at the end. My sister bought the CD. I can't stress how good it was. Yay Phil Collins!
You can't really see us in this picture, but oh, well!
After the show we wandered up to the Ed Sullivan Theatre. Our dad is a big David Letterman fan, so these pictures are for him!
Although it was closed, we wanted desperately to say hello to Rupert at the Hello Deli!
Saturday
On Saturday we decided to go to Chinatown. I'd never been. It was alright, if you like cheap jewelry (which, my sister does - bonus!).
I thought it funny that the first floor of this building was a Starbucks:
I loved how nothing was in English. It's kind of nice to feel like a foreigner once in a while.
I should have a matching bird on my head to reflect this statue:
After Chinatown, we headed to Union Square and walked around the farmer's market. Then my sister wanted to see Grand Central Station, so we headed up there, too. I like this picture of us:
After Grand Central Station, we headed back over to midtown and had dinner at Zen Palate. It was DELICIOUS. My sister absolutely loved it. I got pineapple iced tea to drink. I love pineapple! Then we headed back to Broadway to see Wicked, which, of course, was excellent. My sister had never seen it so she especially enjoyed it.
Sunday
On Sunday morning we went to brunch with my roommates, our friend Katie, and
luckylicious and his boyfriend. It was such fun!
Afterward, Lisa and I decided to take a stroll in Central Park. It was fun taking cheesy tourist shots.
Eww, stinky horse poo!
I think Central Park is so beautiful. I decided to take a couple of shots of this waterfall:
And Lisa thought it was cute, so she took a picture of me taking a picture of the waterfall:
We also went up by Belvedere Castle. I think it's so nice! Here are more cheesy pictures!
Here's a view of the Turtle Pond from the castle:
We saw this crazy guy performing. he was dressed all strange and he played the violin, while singing AND dancing. Only in New York!
After Central Park we headed to Brooklyn to have dinner with my friend Brooke. We went to this great Thai restaurant called Joya. Yum!
Then we headed back into Manhattan and got drunk! I've never gotten drunk with my sister before. It was a blast! And it was her first time at a gay bar! Here we are with my roommate at Rose's Turn:
Monday
We didn't do ANYTHING on Monday. My sister wasn't feeling well, so we just chilled on the couch all day. And you know what? That was fun, too! I just like being around her.
I was very sad on Tuesday morning when I had to put her on a bus to go home. I miss her already!
This was our last picture together, taken Tuesday morning before we left my apartment.
