San Pedro La Laguna de Lago Atitlan

I am staying in this drug infused hippie lake town in Guatemala right now. I have been doing so much traveling the last few weeks that it is really nice to stay in one place. Guatemala has definitely been a crazy experience and I have mixed my travel with meeting a lot of the local couchsurfers here in Guate. I went to a big beach meeting on the Pacific Coastal town of Tilipita. I then headed back down to Lago Atitlan with a dreadlocked French couchsurfer and stayed at his really nice house in Pana. It was really nice staying in someones house after staying in all these five dollar a night dire hostels. I have two weeks left and I am just gonna stay in the various towns in Lago Atitlan and then head to Antigua where hopefully I can couchsurf again and then do the Volcan Pecaya trek. I am a little concerned with this give it is still an active volcano and some of the other travelers have had the sole of their shoes melt off.

My Spanish has been coming back and I have been doing pretty well with speaking it. Last night I was playing cards with this French couple I met in Rio Dulce and a Spanish guy from Pais Vasco. All in all conversation went pretty well with us coming from different language backgrounds but having Spanish unite us. My birthday is on Thursday and I am just going to chill in San Pedro for some of the many parties. I had contemplated going to Honduras for the Central American couchsurfing meeting, but the idea of actually traveling to Honduras does not appeal to me. Anyways, I need to now take the vacation from the vacation I have been having and being near the lake is very nice.
