Is "good characterization" what people say when they really think a fic sucks but aren't going to say something mean about it? Because that's always what I get compliments about.
I ask this because it's what Gene and Marcia always zoom in on (but then, we have very similar headcanons on our character sets), and what
cyen comments on for my Pearlfic I gave her for Swapmas. Said fic was pretty much "10000 HOURS IN MS WORD", and I've never gotten any 8Dds for other aspects of my writing.
I know my prose style isn't the greatest, but do I actually suck and because this is such a nice fandom no one's going to say? I've got to ask.
To me, my prose feels way too bare, especially when I'm trying to evoke the feeling of being in one of those loud bright TGIApplechilis places like with the Pearlfic (once I get a fic journal, it's "Dinner for Two or Three") or trying to get the very kinetic characters down, such as Maya. I think the sparseness of background detail might work in my favor when I'm writing von Karmas. When I write, I'm trying to quite literally be inside the character's head, and in the situations in which I like to write Miles or Franziska 1) They're in places they've known for years and 2) in situations where emotions are going to naturally be heightened, so it's likely they won't be noticing details unless it directly pertains to the issue at hand. So I guess there I'm lucky.
But I really wish I could be Marcia. I actually like her TL;DR-land, because I can feel what's happening to her camera character. And that's always interesting, if not always "fun".
