don't forget

HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN?

I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start preaching
Let me ask you this my friend

CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day

I'm actually a bit offended by the song. I think it takes a lot of things and twists them. Personally, I am against the war. I'm all for finding those responsible for 9/11 and for finding Bin Laden and for never forgetting the heroes and those who suffered and died as a result of 9/11. I just don't see what the killing of innocent people and Iraq have to do with something that came out of an entirely different country. The official story now, anyhow, is that we're in Iraq to bring democracy to that country. I don't believe that, but I don't see how (if this administration is to be trusted) that has anything to do with 9/11.

I'm sorry you were offended my his song. I don't agree with everything he writes there, but enough to post the song. I also can totally see your point of view. Yet don't you think that we so easily forget the very real threat of terrorism after it occers? We all want to live happily together, but so many times that just isn't the real world.

Sorry, again that you were offended. It isn't why I post things.

Don't worry about it Abby. I agree with him actually, but I know that we all remember the day. The Administration has a take, a wrong one albeit on the subject, about the day and what power it gives them. But in the end, what I grab from the song, is that I will never forget the day as it was, and that I never should. And that what it shows us is that we should always be looking for ways of securing our God given Rights, and never let them go... No matter the cost.

Exactly John.

I'm glad it's what you took from the song.

It's what I did.

Oh no, I never thought your intention was to offend me or those of my sensibilites. I just wanted to point out that just because someone doesn't agree with the war, it doesn't mean we want to forget about 9/11 and those who died. I'm a big tree-hugging peacenik but I certainly don't think we should ever forget about 9/11.

As for the idea of war ever being a good solution to anything, *shrug*. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Oh good, I'm glad you didn't think that. I would never do that.

Yes, just because you are against the war does NOT mean that you would ever forget 9/11, and I take that song to point out my own forgetfulness as much as any. It's hard to always remember what we lost and could have lost that day when I personally did not lose anyone. It's important for me to remember how serious this is. Being in America can sometimes lull us into a state of forgetfullness I think. Mostly because the hardships that happen are typically so very far away, it feels unreal.

And yes, until someone as slow as me really figures out what she believes about this war and why she believes it, yes, I suppose we'll just have to agree to dissagree.

:D You're awesome. Never stop being awesome. ;)
