The War.

"I know what I’m about to say is not going to be a popular thing. But to pick up and leave would break the promises we have made to the Iraqi people, would leave hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians defenseless, would lead to massive chaos and bloodshed, and would be an act of moral dishonor. It would be akin to what the Allies did after ( Read more... )

*give Abby and whoever writes Breakpoint a standing ovation*

I completely agree. So many people argue over whether we should have gotten involved in Iraq, but to me, that is not the question. You can't change the past, you are in the present, and it affects the future. It's time for America to show some honesty, one definition being "worthiness of being depended on". This whole topic leads into support of the president too. As unpopular as he may be, he IS the president and that means respect. I usually don't articulate my political views very often, but this seemed like a ripe opportunity. Thanks for posting.

Yay, thank you SOOO much! You should articulate your political views more often. I agree with the president thing too. We voted him in, and aside from that I think he stands strongly on issues (stem cell research for example) that really should be strongly stood for. He deserves respect from anyone.

Love ya,
Abby

Yeah, he makes some really good points sometimes. I've also spoken with some of my relatives who go over there all the time and they are very afraid America will pull out and create a genocide over there.

I agree, but I really don't see why we had to go in-- in the first place. We were acting like the 'big brother' that controls everyone-- and that is what is making people hate us around the world.

I still support our troops. I just do not support their leader.

Yeah, I'm not so firm on the belief that we should have gone at first (it seems like if we are going to go in for a democratic system and the freedom to vote and stuff, why Iraq? I also think that it's time the people that live there need to step up a bit more. We gave our life for this country, it seems like they should be first in line to give it for theirs, and not our boys.) but I don't have all the information anyway. And who knows what decision I would have made if I did.

Heck yes, support the troops!! :D :D

Oh, I am not stating that I would know how to handle things either. It is much easier to just point the finger and blame [as Jason has stated *pets Jason and HN*]

It isn't the troops faults. They signed up for this. They are defending our country-- and if you can't back someone who is defending our country what are you backing? Those kids need all the support they can get-- that is their energy.

I'm sorry, as a Native American I have a completely different view of this war ( ... )

Hmmm, I never thought of compairing this war with what happened with the Native Americans. I don't believe we are forcing our way of life on them either. I mean, as far as I know we are simply trying to give them enough of a head start to form their OWN government. We want to get them back on their feet so they can start deciding as a country (and yes, hopefully that means the people can have a say) what they want to do. As of now, all they have is no government and a bunch of radical islamic groups that want to kill people. If we left them with simply that, can you imagine the outcome ( ... )

finally. somebody who isnt going completely against the war. of course i am one of those people who love bush. the thing is, if we win the war, everybody will start saying "i always knew the war was a great idea" and nobody will remember every being against it. i think it will be truly amazing to see how better off the people in iraq will be once the war ends. people dont remember to look at the future with this, they are too worried about what people are saying about it now.

Is this a Bush fan??? *huuuugs* FINALLY! I think he's doing the right thing. The hard thing...but the right thing. The people who actually GO over there (at least everyone I've talked to or heard talking) say that they are actually doing a lot of good and that we need to stay. What does the media know anyway? Yeah, of course if it ends happily it will be all celebration for Bush. I wonder how history will look back on him. Lots of times when presidents made unpopular decisions people hated them for it, only to realize how good it was later. Of course he has his faults, but I think he's doing really well.
