Let's talk about Sara

Okay, now if you are one of the three people who read 'Violated' and are now reading my perpetually late 'Mistaken Identity' you might be wondering exactly where I'm taking Sara. I'll admit it, this isn't the usual Sara story amd though no one has said anything about it, I'd like to ramble about it for a bit.

First off, Sara Sidle is one of my favorite charecters to play with. She used to be my favorite tv charecter period but shenanigans kept piling up and without much warning Emily Prentiss strutted right by her and won my heart. That's a story for another day though. Back to Sara-

I am, obviously, not pleased with where the last few seasons have taken Sara. Don't get me wrong I like Grissom well enough, but I hate GSR with a fury that is unequaled. Kill it, kill it, kill it with fire!

I started Violated with a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to do. I had come up with the idea of Sara having an ex-girlfriend walk back into her life for quite a while. It's mentioned in one of my older fics Angels of Vegas, but only in passing. I was going to write a smaller fic about it, but the idea fell through and that idea was shelved.

The idea for 'Violated' came from a show I was watching on the History channel. The History of Sex or something like that. I love the History Channel something fierce, but a certain section of the episode totally freaked me out. The anti-rape device they talked about was just crazy. I was almost immediatly hit with inspiration. So the main plot of Violated came to be, and as I was looking at it...well I finally had a place to put Alexandra Dupree.

'Violated' is the first of three stories, and the over-arcing idea is pretty simple. It's all about the destruction, rebirth and ultimite triumph of Sara Sidle. It's about her finding herself again after Natalie Davis kidnaps her. While I think the show did a half-descent job with the subject, I still want to see MORE.

So 'Violated' was the destruction part. First off she does not have Grissom. The main change I made to the canon was that at the end of 'Dead Doll' Grissom gets the self-involved idea stuck in his head that if he hadn't loved Sara she would have never been put in danger, so he calls it off. It's cheap, I'll admit it, but I have three stories to explain and examine what happened, so just go with it. Next, we have Sara simply dealing with the trauma she went through. It's been six months and she's still having problems.

Now aside from a crazy-assed killer running around Vegas, Sara's ex flame Alex Dupree arrives in Vegas and finds Sara...with her lips.

My favorite part of all of this story is the role reversal. Catherine Willows is calling relationship shenanigans on Sara. Sara is the talk of the lab and the tabloids and Catherine is the one on the moral highground. It's pretty ironic. Usually on the show it's Catherine who finds herself in a sex/relationship-related situation. Catherine is suddenly overshadowed by Sara.

There is also the bare-bones begining of a Sara/Sofia ship....also there's a lovable dog.

Now onto 'Mistaken Identity'. It's only in Chapter II (III is still with the beta...the wonderful John Smith) but I have huge-ass plans. I was hoping it would be somewhat smaller then 'Violated'...it's not looking so small...but I get to blow things up!!! I'm only in Chapter IV and I've killed countless people (no, really, I haven't even counted how many people are dead yet) and I've blown up a helicopter, set things ablaze AND worked in Sara and Sofia in bathing suits. C'mon, that's talent. Muhahahaa!

Sara's role in this story is really diffrint. Now, considering everything that happened to her in 'Violated' and the events of the begining of 'Mistaken Identity' it's not entirly OOC. It's a real adventure into the psyche of Sara Sidle. I explore some things she's not so proud of doing, some things she enjoys doing, a secret skill she's been hiding...oh and there are explosions, gun battles and undeniable Sara/Sofia moments.

It's going to be epic. Not epic as in mind-blowingly great, but definitly epic as in loooong.

I can't say much about the third story in this series, Protect and Serve, but it's going to be great. Allot of things will make sense and I'll give MY answer to one of the biggest Sara Sidle questions out there (in my opinion at least): Why did she stay in Vegas? I vehmently deny and ignore the show's answer of "It was for Grissom." Freakin' shenanigans. While it was good for her career, it is quite obvious that she probably would have advanced quicker in San Fransisco. So why did she stay?! Oh, I'll tell you why. That and a whole bunch of other questions will be answered as I wrap up this INCREDIBLY long series of stories...and most likely end my CSI-fic writing days as well.

I'm not throwing in the towel or anything, I'm working on a Criminal Minds fic and thinking about writing some DC comics related fics (Kate Kane aka Batwoman and Renee Montoya aka The Question just beg for good fic). I'm just done with CSI. I've told my stories and taken the charecters as far as I can. Hey, maybe I'm wrong and I'll come back after Protect and Serve with something badass and unprecedented. I doubt it, but hey anything is possible.

rant, csi
