FCBD Prologue

May 01, 2010 03:52

It's that time of year again, folks.  It's the first Saturday in May, and you know what that means?!  Right!  Right?  Wait, what no?

Okay, I will tell you:  It's National Free Comic Book Day!

Oh yes!

All the big companies, and most of the smaller ones as well, will be putting out free comics tommorow.  Now most of them are suck-you-in promos and previews, but DC is showcasing War of the Supermen so it's not all bad.  I think Marvel's might (MIGHT) be the opener of the newest incarnation of the X Men.

This warrants a trip to the shop!  Okay, so I was going anyway, but still.

I am within budget, more or less, on my subscriptions so my pull shouldn't be outrageous or anything.  I assume there will be a post comic-coma review.

Here's what I'm looking forward to the most:

Secret Six:  Chesire has returned and is bringing assloads of trouble with her!  Watch out Catman!

Wonder Woman...I can't actually remember as it's a new arc I think...It's Gail Simone and I am so not worried.  It's gonna kick freaking ass.

Batman:  The Widening Gyre Issue 6.  Seriously, this Kevin Smith/Walt Flannigan story has been a joy to read and the art is just awesome!

Also, just an update for anyone who was wondering:

Gail Simone's Birds of Prey Issue 1 drops on May 12th, which is also when the first issue of the Return of Bruce Wayne drops.  I may not  be able to contain my geeky-self for long.  I might actually have to make a special trip just for those issues.

Additional fun fact:  Since Gail Simone is taking on Birds of Prey once again, she is leaving Wonder Woman after Issue 600.  JMS is replacing her.  I am of two minds on this.  On the one hand:  NOOOO!  I LOVE Gail Simone's Wonder Woman!  She scraped up the series after Amazons Attacks (Jeez that was a lack-luster mini-series) and made it GREAT!  I mean, The Circle, Ends of the Earth (Not My Favorite arc but still better then Amazons Attack) and Rise of the Olympian?  Hera help me that was an incredible read!  On the other hand, JMS wrote and produced my all-time favortie sci-fi series of all time.  Babylon 5 was ridonculously good!  If B5 is any indication, and I'm sure it is, then Diana is in good hands.  Susan Ivanova was the epitome of a strong female charecter.  There was also D-D...Dey...well I can't spell her name but the Minbari-Ambassador-turned-half-human-woman. That one!  She was of the religious caste, but she was an incredible diplomat and leader.  Susan was also something of a lesbian...sort of ish.  Talia Winters was incredibly hot and smart and utterly unatainable.  Oh and there was the Capitan after Sheridan became President of the intergalactic space thingy (I haven't watched B5 in a loooooong time)  She was there, but I pretty much stopped watching because Susan left.  What the hell was I saying?

Sorry, I was just imagining Whore Island.

Gail Simone I assume...or my ridonculous hot and amazon bitchified girlfriend Jordan...or Gail Simone...
Oooooh yeah, JMS on Wonder Woman.  I'm willing to give it a try.

It's really thuper late.  I am super serious you guys!

New favorite show of the moment:  Archer.  If you're not watching it...you better call Kenny Loggins, cause YOU'RE IN THE DANGER ZONE!

I'm headed to bed nyah.

Oooh I made cupcakes!

Ooooh I think I might be ready to write again...my brains not all tired like it's been lately

cupcakes, jms, gail simone, wonder woman
